The one issue I had with this is, if a friend isn't supportive of something you do, that does not mean they aren't a good friend. Maybe they have different values than you, or feel what you are doing may have negative consequences. Friends willing to speak out about things they feel you may be doing wrong is valuable as it provides accountability. If your values don't line up, then you simply say you disagree and (as you said) decide not to discuss it further.

Thank you for sharing that and being so honest about your experiences. You provide wise advice for those thinking about doing this, being forthright in letting them know that, yes, they will probably be found out at some point and how to deal with that when it happens. You are honest about the fact that they need to be prepared for that inevitability and what stance they need to take to be able to do this kind of thing. Bottom line, they need to be okay with being found out, as you are.
